Read on to find out how you can help guard the turtle nest.
The idyllic Ramla l-Hamra Bay in Gozo has just become home to the Maltese islands’ first turtle nest of 2022.
This was revealed by local eNGO Widlife Rescue Team Malta on social media earlier today.
“After weeks of daily night patrols and morning checks by our wonderful and dedicated volunteers, this morning our volunteer Serena was the lucky one to find our first turtle nest for 2022 at Ramla l-Hamra in Gozo,” the organisation wrote.
“The coordinators from Nature Trust – FEE Malta as well as officials from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) were called to inspect the area, and the nest has been confirmed,” it continued.
In light of said discovery, Nature Trust volunteers will be collaborating with ERA to constantly monitor the area for the coming two months, or until the baby turtles hatch.
