No longer a common sight! Have you ever bought fruit from this traditional cart in Rabat?
Head down to Rabat on Sunday to see this cart in action.

This photo, uploaded by Kappa Vision, shows a scene in Malta that has almost disappeared.

It depicts an old wooden cart displaying fresh fruit and vegetables for sale.

The photo was taken in the historic town of Rabat in particular in front of the church of Saint Paul.

Zgej, the owner behind the cart which is better known as ‘il-karettun’ in Maltese, is one of the many vendors that take their fresh produce for the street markets held in Rabat every Sunday.

Zgej’s traditional cart was once the only means of transport for produce or any other goods.

Now that Malta has more efficient ways of transport, this is no longer the case but this particular fruit vendors is keeping traditions alive.

Zgej also drives a vintage ‘Northern Star’ Ford truck, whose colourful colours perfectly match the lively colours of his fruits and vegetables.
