This month, the harmonies coming from superstar venue Pjazza Teatru Rjal will be music to your ears!
When the knights designed Valletta, they may have been thinking of how to thwart the enemy, or keep the capital cool, but the city’s grid-like streets came with a (perhaps) unexpected boon: its acoustics. And, throughout this month of May, the open-air theatre of Pjazza Teatru Rjal will be organising three events which will keep the music playing on and on, echoing through the streets of Malta's European of Culture.

Pjazza Teatru Rjal - Giovanni Morello
This Friday will see the first take place in the roofless auditorium: the European Jazz Jamboree. The concert will see some of the continent’s most acclaimed jazz players, such as Bertil Strandberg, Avarino Cirinna, Giovanni Morello, Orazio Maugeri, Alessandro Presti and Luca Fattorini, strumming with Malta’s masters of the genre, Sandro Zerafa, Dominic Galea and Charles ‘City’ Gatt. Entrance is free (can you believe it?) and the concert starts at 8pm, but make sure to get there on time to find a place.

Pjazza Teatru Rjal - duo Igudesman & Joo
Mid-month will see the arrival on our shores of duo Igudesman & Joo in A Little Nightmare Music, a comedic theatrical show combining classical music with popular culture. It has been endorsed by famed comedians such as Terry Jones (director, Monty Python) who has described it as “very musical, very engaging and very funny” and THE Sir Roger Moore who described the duo as a dream! The show itself will feature an eclectic range of music: Mozart, Pachelbel's Canon as well as I will Survive and songs from the Beatles will all feature.

Pjazza Teatru Rjal - Malta Concert Orchestra
And, last but definitely not least, Friday 25th May will see the Malta Concert Orchestra perform classic tracks from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Well-known names in the local scene, such as Chris Grech, Lello Ebejer, Josef Tabone, Tiziana, Abigail Brown, Abigail Borg, Christine Gauci, Johanna Galea, Genevieve Darmanin, Daniela Farrugia, Deborah Powell and Maria Vella will be giving choreographed renditions of some of these decades’ most popular tunes from Queen, the Bee Gees and Bon Jovi amongst others.
