The overall number of bus passengers in April 2023 was 5.4 million, which is comparable to the previous month's figure. However, compared to April 2022 and 2019, there was a significant increase of 41.4% and 13.0% respectively.
The majority of passengers, over 4.2 million, used the Tallinja Card to travel, with around 6,000 new registrations in April 2023. This represents an impressive 31.7% increase compared to 2019.
In response to the growing demand for public transport, discussions with authorities are underway to increase the frequency of buses on some of the busiest routes in the coming weeks. This is a positive sign that the public transport system in Malta is adapting to the needs of its users and continuing to improve its services.
