The Superintendent of Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci has confirmed that Malta has the third highest testing rate in Europe. She was answering a question linked to the testing situation in Malta in her return to COVID-19 briefings.

“Right now, the country that is carrying out the most tests is Luxembourg, followed by Denmark and then Malta. We have the third highest testing per population per capita,” she said.

“This clearly shows that the cases we’re having are cases we are catching because we are carrying out a lot testing. If testing is reduced, basically the rate will be reduced, but this is something we don’t want because we want to catch all cases. This is why monitoring is of the utmost importance,” she urged, saying that measures can be taken according to that current situation to further control it.
