This is being done to safeguard the vulnerable

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne has just announced a lockdown for high risk people in an ongoing press conference. Apart from people over 65, the following people are also being asked to remain indoors: inuslin-dependent diabetics, those who have undergone cancer treatments in the last six months, pregnant women, people with HIV, those who make use of the heart clinic, those who have had transplants, those taking steroids, and those on renal dialysis.

This measure will come into effect on Saturday morning to allow for arrangements to be made. This affects over 11,000 people. The Deputy PM has also asked those who can help out these vulnerable people within society to do so. Those people who fall in these categories and have medical appointments that have not been cancelled, are to still go to their appointments. Those who fall within these categories and cannot go to work will be granted special quarantine leave.
