Xewkija in Gozo celebrate the feat of St John the Baptist

Xewkija in Gozo reverberated with festive energy this past weekend as villagers came together to honour St John the Baptist with a dazzling fireworks spectacle.

The celebration, held closest to the saint's feast day of June 24th, featured a grand procession through the streets, complete with vibrant band music, confetti, and beautifully decorated balconies.

However, the highlight came after sundown when the night sky erupted in a choreographed fireworks display. Bursts of red, blue, green, and gold cascaded overhead, leaving spectators, locals and visitors alike, gasping in awe.

The synchronised pyrotechnics, fired from strategic points around the majestic Rotunda church, framed an unforgettable finale that lit up the Gozitan skyline.

This radiant celebration showcased the deep-rooted traditions and community spirit that define local village feasts across Malta.

As one of Gozo’s most beloved festas, Xewkija’s celebration continues to enchant with its perfect blend of religious devotion, joyful music, and spectacular fireworks.

Did you catch a glimpse of any fireworks last night?
