Karta Festa returns to Kalkara! Esplora unveils Carnival-inspired science programme for 2026
Karta Festa 2026 transforms Carnival creativity into an interactive learning experience.
Have you ever wondered about the origins of the technicolours floats and intricate designs that light up Malta’s Carnival celebrations? Esplora Interactive Science Centre has unveiled the third edition of Karta Festa, an exciting new programme that brings together the creativity, craftsmanship and community spirit of Carnival with the curiosity and discovery of science.
Inspired by the artistry and techniques behind traditional Carnival floats, Karta Festa 2026 presents a programme of activities for visitors of all ages – even those who are just children at heart! The experience will feature live science shows exploring themes such as water conservation and the water cycle, alongside hands-on workshops focusing on recycling, textiles and sustainable materials.
Younger visitors can enjoy storytelling sessions that introduce environmental and marine themes in an accessible and imaginative way, while the popular Science on the Spot activities invite participants to actively contribute to the design, construction and restoration of Carnival-inspired elements.
Karta Festa 2026 will take place at the Esplora Interactive Science Centre from 14 to 17 February 2026, coinciding with the Carnival period – just the right time to experience science through one of Malta’s most colourful and beloved cultural traditions. Further details, including booking information, will be announced closer to the event.
