Ka-boom! The Maltese Islands prepare for record-breaking Santa Marija firework extravaganza
National records are expected to be broken by the towns of Mqabba, Għaxaq and Rabat, Gozo.

The annual Santa Marija celebrations in the Maltese Islands are gearing up to be a monumental spectacle this year, immersing both locals and tourists alike.

Anticipation is running high, with this year's festivities set to outshine previous editions. Various localities across Malta and Gozo are vying to break national records related to fireworks.

The towns of Mqabba, Għaxaq, and Rabat in Gozo are engaging in a friendly rivalry, each attempting to outdo the others in terms of firework weight, size, and quantity.

Mqabba is hosting a record-breaking attempt for mechanised ground fireworks on the 14th of August at 11.30pm.

The village of Ħal Għaxaq is also aiming to establish a new record for the largest volume and weight of fireballs launched into the air simultaneously, starting at 8 inches and going up to 27 inches, in a time of about 6 consecutive minutes. This will all go down on the 14th of August at 9.30pm.

Rabat in Gozo is on a mission to set a record for the highest number of fireworks ignited simultaneously which is happening on Tuesday 15th August at 7.30pm.

Enthusiasts and onlookers can expect a captivating display of colour and light during the highly anticipated Santa Marija celebrations. As these towns get ready for firework supremacy, this year's event promises an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
