‘Jubilate’: Schola Cantorum Jubilate's unforgettable Christmas concert happening in Gozo
It’s all happening on the 28th of December 2024.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate (SCJ) is set to deliver another unforgettable Christmas concert this year, with Jubilate taking place on Saturday, 28th December 2024, at 19:30.
A longstanding tradition in Gozo’s Christmas calendar, SCJ has been organising highly anticipated choral evenings since 2000, and this year promises to be no different.
Held at the stunning Ta’ Pinu National Shrine, Jubilate will feature a diverse selection of music that blends classic and contemporary. The evening’s repertoire includes beloved pieces by Gustav Holst, the renowned Christmas composer John Rutter, and famous musical arrangements by David Willcocks.

The audience will also enjoy works by contemporary composers such as Dan Forrest, Malcolm Archer, and Terre Roche. A standout piece will be an arrangement for male voices by SCJ's composer-in-residence, Paul Portelli. His moving interpretation of Tu Scendi delle Stelle, which intertwines the organ and piano, will bring St. Alphonse M. De Liguori’s Christmas text to life in a profound and stirring way.
The concert will feature the SCJ Adults Choir, with occasional contributions from the SCJ Teenage Boys Choir, accompanied by pianist Anna Magrin and organist Joseph Camilleri, all under the expert direction of Marouska Attard.
Jubilate is more than just a concert—it’s an exploration of hope and joy, themes central to the Christmas season and the Roman Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year. With lighting, projections, and literature, the performance offers a contemporary twist on the traditional Christmas concert, enhancing the experience for all.

This event is particularly special as it marks the start of SCJ’s 25th anniversary celebrations, commemorating its significant contribution to Malta’s choral landscape. Jubilate also pays tribute to the late Mro Stephen Attard, SCJ’s first accompanist and a foundational figure in the choir’s early years.
With free entry and no need for booking, Jubilate is an unmissable event for anyone seeking a memorable and ethereal choral experience this Christmas.
