You won’t be disappointed.
Calling all heritage enthusiasts! This one’s for you. This weekend, Heritage Malta is inviting the local public to join in a guided tour of the historical and archaeological sites of Tas-Silġ and Fort Delimara. Both located in Marsaxlokk, these heritage sites are not regularly open to the public, so this is a rare opportunity!

For those new to the islands, or locals who are unfamiliar with the place, here’s all you need to know about these two incredible locations.
Tas-Silġ
Tas-Silġ is a multi-period sanctuary site which dates back to the Neolithic era. Archaeological remains indicate that this site continued to bear religious significance for various cultures throughout the Bronze Age, Phoenician-Punic, Roman, Byzantine and Arabic Periods. The site takes its name from the nearby Church of Our Lady of the Snow (Knisja tal-Madonna tas-Silġ).

Fort Delimara
Fort Delimara is a 19th century British military structure which formed part of a chain of fortifications intended to protect Marsaxlokk Harbour. The fort is mostly underground, with ventilation apertures and access passageways spread out across the face of the cliff and out onto the seaward face of Delimara Point. This site was one of the filming locations of the 2016 movie Assassin’s Creed - so if it looks familiar, now you know why!

The tour will be held on Saturday 26th January starting from Tas-Silġ Chapel at 9am sharp! Attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes and to bring along a torch. Tickets are available from all Heritage Malta museums and sites, and online. More information can be found on Heritage Malta’s website.
