Iconic Italian Navy Ship ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ is set to berth at the Valletta Cruise Port this coming Friday 26th August.

The general public won’t have to settle for viewing this awe-inspiring vessel from a distance, as it will be welcoming visitors onboard on Saturday 27th between 10:30am and 4:30pm.

The Amerigo Vespucci was named after the legendary 15th century Italian explorer of the same name. This historical icon’s impact is felt far and wide, with the continent of America being named after him since he was one of the leading explorers during the ‘Age of Discovery’ voyages.

The ship’s home port is in La Spezia, Italy and it’s now mainly used as a school ship to train prospective sailors for the Italian navy.

It was originally built in 1930, making this stunning vessel around 92 years old.

The Vespucci ship has been all over the world and even carried the Olympic torch during the 1960 Rome Olympics, from Piraeus to Syracuse.
