Right, so it’s that big day when everyone everywhere wants to celebrate the new year coming. But where to go is the big question. There’s a lot going on and one simple Facebook search will bring up all sorts of happenings in the Maltese islands. It’s a matter of taste, so we’ve collected some of our favourite New Year's Eve events for different preferences for you to consider.
1. Young & Wild Events
Plenty of these! We favour these events that feature some of Malta's best known DJs and party organisers. The Juuls Reggae Party at Fortizza is bringing the legendary Randy Valentine (LIVE) straight from Jamaica. Infinite NYE 2020 at Hugo's features two stages of music with favourite local DJs Ms Roberta and DJ Ruby. Bee vs Ziggy NYE 2020 - Sky Club - (Mansion & Playground) also features two stages of music with local popular DJs Carl Bee and Ziggy, and Daniel Blade. The End - New Year's Eve at Tigullio will be the biggest badass party with five stages featuring an electronic sphere, an open jamming space, dub, reggae jungle and psy trance
2. Cool intimate events
For those that like to party in a more intimate environment, Cafe Society brings an intimate gathering at this favourite Valletta haunt with a popular London DJ, Dean Wengrow. SR New Year's Eve at Storeroom is another intimate venue bringing friends together with minimal house and punchy dub.
3. Big and popular events
For those that like the massive events, these two stand out: From Grease to Black Eyed Peas NYE 2020 will take over the Gianpula Main Room with a huge dance party playing classic 80s hits, while Resolutions @ Montekristo Estates brings you an open bar event at the snow-themed wine vaults of Montekristo Estates, featuring a fancy sound, light and FX setup.
4. Wild and Classy
If you prefer elegant but still exciting, Extravaganza New Years Eve at Club TwentyTwo brings you top DJs, dancers, live musicians and decor at one of Malta’s most exclusive venues.
5. Best Live Gig
If great live entertainment is the way to go for you, you’re in for a treat. New Year's Eve 2020 with Ivan Grech & Red Electrick at The Xara Lodge brings you a gala reception limited to 500 people in the beautiful city of Mdina, featuring full live performances and DJ Ian Lang, plus an open bar and finger food all night
6. Best Family NYE Event
You’ve got kids but don’t want to miss out on a good new year’s party? The New Year's Eve Bash at The Valletta Waterfront will feature a variety of live bands, roaming children’s entertainment and fireworks, followed by a DJ playing classics and popular hits until late.
7. Top Gala Dinners
If you prefer something more sober and some definitively good food to welcome the new year, one of these three gala dinners may be for you. Gala Dinner for New Year's Eve at Ta’ Marija Restaurant promises a gala dinner the Maltese way with Maltese food and Maltese Star Odessa Green live on stage alongside DJ Ray. New Year's Eve Dinner at Palazzo de Piro brings you an elegant dinner in a historic Palazzo by the Mdina Cathedral with live entertainment all night. New Year's Eve Gala at Portomaso Suite will be a gastronomic five-course gala dinner with entertainment by the legendary George Curmi il-Puse in the superb chic ambience of Portomaso.
