Following a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the beloved BirguFest is finally returning to the streets of Vittoriosa tomorrow, bringing music, re-enactments, and an incomparable atmosphere to this historic city.

The 17th edition of BirguFest will kick off with a concert on the Main Stage at the Vittoriosa Main Square at 7:30pm. Local bands Tea Crisis and Fakawi will be serenading attendees up until midnight.

Having said that, the BirguFest festivities will reach their highly anticipated climax on the evening of Saturday 8th October.

From 4pm onwards, the city’s streetlights will be switched off and some 20,000 candles will, instead, be lighting up Birgu.

Countless activities and events will be taking place around Birgu on the day – from a Fire Performance at St John’s Tower and a re-enactment at the Birgu Ditch, to an orchestral performance at the Annunciation Church and a Short Film Festival on Fosse Street.

The night will be closed off with a live performance from top Maltese band The Travellers on the Main Stage.

We could go on for ages about all the stuff that’s going at BirguFest 2022, so simply head to the festival’s Facebook page for a full timetable of events and take your pick!

Thinking of checking BirguFest out?

Use this as an opportunity to visit the countless museums and places of interest scattered around the city. These include the Malta at War Museum, the Parish Museum, Fort St Angelo, and The Inquisitor’s Palace.

Luckily, the latter two sites will both remain open until midnight with a reduced entrance fee of €3.

The Fortini Football Ground will be opening its doors as a parking area.

The Birgu Local Council has also reached an agreement with the Koperattiva Coop Services to have the Park & Ride service run from 6pm to 12:30am.

This will start from Kordin, near the Hibernians Football Ground, continuing to Garden Road, Zabbar, and onto Triq il-Gublew tal-Fidda in Birgu.

The Valletta Ferry Service will also be in operation until 12am on Friday and Sunday and until 1am on Saturday.
