Independence Day! Philharmonic Orchestra concert celebrates 60 years of Maltese autonomy this month
September 21st marks 60 years since Malta gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1964. To celebrate this milestone, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a special concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, starting at 8pm with free admission for all.
The concert will be held under the patronage of Her Excellency the President of Malta, and the local Philharmonic Orchestra will be under the direction of Maestro Michael Laus, and accompanied by the local mezzo soprano Marvic Monreal.
The programme performed on the night will comprise pieces from both local and international classical composers, including Beethoven, Brahms, Alexander Vella Gregory and Charles Camilleri.
In collaboration with this event, a documentary on Independence Day is being put together and will be broadcast on national television, providing audiences with a renewed appreciation of Malta’s rich history.
