From Edinburgh, to London - and soon in Malta!

The play ‘Blanket Ban’, written and performed by Marta Vella and Davinia Hamilton, has been circulating across various stages since 2022, stunning audiences and leaving four- and five-star reviews in its wake. It’s now coming home to Malta, to be staged at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta on the 7th – 9th March and 14th – 16th March, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7 PM.

‘Blanket Ban’ tackles the complex and emotional subject of Malta’s restrictive abortion laws, exploring the real-life repercussions faced by many in the country. The play walks the fine line between humour and gravity, with The Guardian describing it as ‘effortlessly treading the line between buoyant and sombre’. Marta and Davinia wove the script together by conducting interviews and integrating personal stories into the narrative, making it a poignant and powerful reflection of the experiences of those affected.

Produced by Chalk Line Theatre and directed by Sam Edmunds and Vikesh Godhwani, 'Blanket Ban' has been met with rave reviews. It received the Untapped Award and was a sold-out hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it was hailed as a ‘Must See Show’ by Fringe Review and longlisted for a BBC Popcorn Writing Award. After its success in Edinburgh, the play went on to a month-long run at The Southwark Playhouse in London, where it was shortlisted for an Off West End Award ('Offie').

Returning to its roots on Women’s Day weekend, ‘Blanket Ban’ is one not to be missed this March - get your tickets from the Spazju Kreattiv website
