History inspiring innovation! Science in the City returns to Valletta this September
Science in the City is back for its 14th edition on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September, transforming Valletta’s Triton Fountain, Sala San Duminku, and Duttrina Hall into hubs of science, art, and creativity.
Under the theme ‘Past Forward’, this year’s festival shows how lessons from history fuel innovation, STEAM education, and creative breakthroughs. The street festival invites visitors to interact with hands-on exhibits such as ‘Science Through Time’, exploring life’s origins and possible futures, and Heritage Malta’s 360° shipwreck experience, bringing the past to life in immersive ways for all ages.
Parallel live performances and workshops will engage audiences with cutting-edge sensory and participatory experiences. Highlights include ‘Sub_Bar’ by Francesco Spaggiari, where sound is felt through vibrations, and Sean Briffa’s ‘The Science Wheel’, a science-theatre adventure shaped by the audience’s decisions.
Pre-festival events running from 30th August to 25th September also tackle pressing social issues, such as human trafficking, using dynamic artworks and historical insights to connect the past with present-day challenges.
Since its first edition in 2012, Science in the City has grown from 12,000 attendees to over 33,000 last year, proving Malta’s appetite for discovery and creativity.
