The exhibition is running until the 4th of October at the National Museum of Archeology!

Visitors to the National Museum of Archaeology now have the opportunity to discover a remarkable collection of previously unseen works by renowned Maltese artist Giorgio Preca in a new exhibition celebrating Malta's ancient heritage.

Following the success of the 2021 Giorgio Preca exhibition at MUŻA, the artist's family has unveiled 31 never-before-exhibited paintings dedicated to the Maltese Goddess. Many of the works draw inspiration from the iconic "Sleeping Lady", showcasing Giorgio Preca's artistic maturity and his deep connection to Malta's cultural identity.

Created while the artist was living abroad, the paintings blend recognisable Maltese symbols with avant-garde artistic influences, offering visitors a unique insight into how Giorgio Preca interpreted the island's prehistoric past from afar.

The exhibition also explores the enduring mystery surrounding both the ancient Goddess and these long-hidden artworks, while examining their significance within Malta's post-independence cultural landscape and evolving national identity.

Titled ‘Hidden Goddesses: Unseen Paintings by Giorgio Preca’, the exhibition runs until 4th October 2026 and is included with admission to the National Museum of Archaeology.

An illustrated catalogue, available in English, has also been published to accompany the exhibition and can be purchased from Heritage Malta museums and sites, as well as online.

The museum is open daily from 9:00am to 7:00pm, with last admission at 6:30pm.
