Gulls Day Out! Sharpen your birdwatching skills at Salina Nature Reserve this January
If you ever wander the islands, looking upward with curiosity about the feathered species that fill the sky, this might just be the event for you! BirdLife Malta is organising a ‘Gulls Day Out’ at Salina Nature Reserve on Saturday 25th January between 9 AM and 3 PM, which will explore the various types of gulls that visit the islands (spoiler: they’re not just seagulls!)
Although some gulls can be found at the Salina salt pans all year round, others only visit during winter, making this the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge of these winged beauties. Part of the event will be dedicated to telling the various species and age groups apart, where visitors will be taught specific gull identification tips.
The Salina Nature Reserve will be available for exploration, allowing those present to put their new knowledge to the test as they identify the birds they spot at the reserve. Little ones will also be kept busy with fun and creative activities, through which they can take home some new facts on the birds too!
Finally, Salina’s new Salt Museum will also be open for visitation, for those curious about the salt pans and salt production, both past and present.
