Goodbye, Christmas in Malta! When's the right time to take down your decorations?
The festive season is filled with traditions, and one of the most debated questions is when to take down the Christmas decorations.
According to Christian tradition, your Christmas tree should remain up until the 'Twelfth Night,' marking the end of the Christmas season and the arrival of the Three Wise Men, also known as Epiphany. This falls on the 5th or 6th of January, depending on how the Twelve Days of Christmas are counted.
For many, this tradition honours the religious roots of Christmas, symbolising the conclusion of the joyous celebrations. However, modern customs vary widely. Some people choose to pack away their decorations earlier, perhaps as soon as New Year’s Day, as part of a fresh start for the year ahead. Others prefer to keep the festive spirit alive a little longer, waiting until mid-January or even later.
So, when should you take down your decorations? The answer depends on your personal preferences and traditions. If you follow Christian customs, the Twelfth Night is a meaningful choice. For those who enjoy the cosiness of twinkling lights and festive ornaments, there’s no harm in keeping them up a bit longer.
Conversely, if you’re eager to clear the clutter and reset your space for the new year, earlier might be the way to go.
Do you follow tradition, or do you have your own timeline for wrapping up the holiday season?
