There are beach days, and then there are days when you simply never feel the need to leave the sea.

So many places are dominated by concrete, glass and stainless steel, and modern design whereas we wanted Tortuga to offer something more authentic; a place where people can genuinely unwind, reconnect with nature and experience the authentic real beauty of Malta’.

At Tortuga, the day begins gently. Arrive in the morning and settle in by the water with breakfast and panoramic views across the Mediterranean. There is something particularly special about seeing the bay before the day’s heat and energy fully set in. It is the perfect excuse to put your phone away, take your time and let the morning unfold at its own pace.

As the sun climbs higher, it is time for some serious lounging. You can book your spot and choose between the sandy beach, where you can sink your toes into the warm sand, or the seaside deck, offering a more elevated sunbathing experience just steps from the water. And with those inviting turquoise waters right in front of you, a swim is practically inevitable.

For those who find it difficult to stay still for an entire day, Tortuga also provides the perfect starting point for an adventure. From the beach, you can set off by kayak towards the spectacular Coral Lagoon and Cave. The self-guided two-hour paddle takes you along Malta’s rugged northern coastline, with a safety support boat on standby. 

Along the way, you will pass the historic White Tower, built in 1658 by the Knights of Malta, before reaching the dramatic Coral Lagoon. Paddle into its striking open-roof formation and you will find a secluded swimming spot surrounded by cliffs and remarkably still, crystalline water. The lagoon’s otherworldly landscape has even featured in scenes from the Jurassic Park franchise.

Back at Tortuga, the pace slows once again. The restaurant makes the most of its seaside setting, serving fresh Mediterranean cuisine with uninterrupted views of Gozo and Comino. ‘When it comes to beach clubs, most people tend to leave just before sunset. Yet we believe this is the most magical time of the day’, Adrian explains. ‘We encourage our guests to stay, enjoy a few cocktails on the terrace and take in the sunset - a truly special time of day.’
