The first week of January is here and most of us have gone back to routine after the Christmas period. It seems like the weather has also gone back to the winter routine as posted by The Maltese Islands’ Facebook page.
This week is set to be a notably unsettled and increasingly wintry week, according to the latest forecast and an update from the Maltese Islands Weather Facebook page. The week begins on a relatively mild note, with Monday 5th bringing mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures hover around 19–20°C, with moderate southerly winds and generally manageable sea conditions, although some areas may experience rough seas at times.
Conditions start to change from Tuesday 6th, with isolated showers developing and temperatures briefly peaking near 21°C before a sharp shift midweek.
From Wednesday 7th January, a significant change in weather pattern is expected. Winds will swing to a strong northwesterly direction and are forecast to remain strong for at least five days. This shift will usher in colder air, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures, with daytime highs falling to around 14–15°C and nighttime lows dipping to 9°C or lower.
Wednesday through Friday will be marked by isolated showers, strong to gale-force northwesterly winds, and very rough seas, making marine conditions hazardous. While rainfall amounts are not expected to be excessive, the combination of wind, cooler temperatures, and rough seas will make it feel distinctly colder.
Overall, the latter half of the week will feel more like mid-winter, reminding residents that January has truly arrived.
Are you looking forward to the first week of January?
