“Great news for Zejtun locals as we received news that Zejtun has won the title of the European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) Award 2020,” the council wrote on socials.

“It’s an award given by the European Union thanks to the Ministry for Tourism, through which our locality will be given touristic promotion.”

The council also thanked councillors Stephanie Fenech and Sean Chircop for their hard work to get this recognition. If you’ve never heard of the award, the European Destinations of Excellence is a project that promotes sustainable tourism development across the EU and is measured through competitions done nationally at each participating country.

It also isn’t Malta and Gozo’s first rodeo when it comes to this particular award, with the following towns having received this same title over the past 12 years: Nadur (2007), Santa Lucija (2008), Mellieha (2009), Senglea (2010), Gharb (2011), Xaghra (2015), and Qrendi (2016).
