Chronicles in Colour, the latest exhibition by celebrated Maltese artist James Vella Clark, is now open at Spazju Kreattiv and runs until the 22nd June 2025. This vibrant show marks 25 years of the artist’s artistic journey and stands as evidence to his evolving creative voice.

Bringing together nearly 40 works, the exhibition traces James’ development from early expressionist interpretations of the Maltese landscape to his latest ventures into bold abstraction. What began as emotionally charged landscapes rooted in memory have, over the years, dissolved into vivid explorations of colour and form. His dynamic brushwork and fearless use of colour reflect both personal growth and artistic risk.

Each canvas pulses with emotion; some works were completed just before the show opened, giving visitors a rare insight into his current creative direction. Local tones of ochre and sunlit stone blend seamlessly with Mediterranean blues, grounding his work in Malta while offering universal appeal.

Curated by Anthony Galea, the exhibition includes a newly launched catalogue that explores the artist’s impact on Maltese contemporary art. With international exhibitions under his belt, from Brussels to New York, James Vella Clark continues to bring global resonance to local themes.
