Zion Reggae Bar
Located in Marsascala in the far south of Malta and only open seasonally during the summer, Zion Reggae Bar remains the number one venue for Reggae events on the Maltese Islands. Large and set in a palleted outdoor area that is only partially roofed, the venue has seen some great artists and events.
Jah Ruulz (ex Juuls)
Tucked away on a St Julian's side-road sloping down to the sea, on the periphery of Paceville, Jah Ruulz is the new management of ex Juuls, after the previous owner moved to Jamaica. The cosy venue has a themed event every night all year round, aimed at creating a community vibe within the reggae scene.
The Funky Monkey
The Funky Monkey is a unique outdoor venue set up with pallet furniture and a tiny indoor area in the grounds of the ex-Gzira Bocci Club on Manoel Island. It offers varied events most nights; expect anything from techno to 90s classics and a good dose of reggae nights even through the winter.
Fra Ben Reggae Bar
Another outdoor venue, this time a small characteristic bar with a terrace on the Qawra peninsula in St Paul's Bay. It is sometimes open through the winter with plastic sheeting to protect against the elements, but not every year, so its best to check ahead if you're looking to visit during the winter months. Fra Ben is a chill-out bar and frequented by locals, expats, tourists and Africans looking for a seaside bar with authentic roots and reggae vibes. Expect the occasional gig and DJ session too.
