Malta has taken center stage in an interesting cultural exchange as Mango TV premiered its newest variety show, Detective’s Holiday, on the 19th of December 2024. Produced by Yan Ji Super Studio and directed by Mr. Yan Ji, the program offers viewers an immersive journey through Malta’s rich history, culture, and scenic beauty, reaching millions of Chinese viewers.
The show stars seven prominent celebrities: He Jiong (何炅), Zhang Ruoyun (张若昀), Da Zhangwei (大张伟), Wang Ou (王鸥), Wei Chen (魏晨), Yang Rong (杨蓉), and Wu Xin (吴昕) who share an enduring friendship from the Detective series. Together, they blend mystery-solving with cultural exploration, presenting Malta’s heritage through an engaging and dynamic lens.
Filming locations such as Valletta and Mdina, celebrated for their architectural grandeur and cinematic charm, are integral to the show’s narrative. In the debut episode, the cast explores Malta’s Baroque architecture, enjoys iconic gondola rides, and learns the intricate art of filigree jewellery-making. The program weaves these experiences with heartfelt moments of cultural exchange, including the cast’s rendition of the Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower alongside local residents.

As Malta and China celebrate 52 years of diplomatic ties, the show deepens this connection by offering Chinese audiences a compelling portrayal of Malta’s charm. Its unique format combines travel with puzzle-solving, making the program both entertaining and educational.
