Back to her roots! INANNA ‘Rising Goddess of Malta’ coming to Valletta in stunning performance this July
The Canada-based Maltese dancer Joanne Camilleri is returning to her roots in a performance quite unlike anything local audiences have seen before. A globally renowned belly dancer and instructor at the University of Toronto, Joanne goes by the stage name of ‘INANNA – the Rising Goddess of Malta’, and will be bringing a 90-minute multimedia performance to Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta on the 18th and 19th of July.
The performance will bring dancing, circus acts and animation projection to the stage, accompanied by an original musical soundtrack merging folk rock and Islamic scales, all of which combines to celebrate the local story of the goddess of fertility for a contemporary audience.
Joanne Camilleri has expressed excitement at the prospect of bringing the local story back to its roots, with an act whose name pays tribute to her ancestors – ‘in-nanna’, meaning the grandmother.
INANNA has already been garnering some international attention. Entertainment Monthly in the United States described it as ‘an epic stage production’ in a full feature article they wrote about the show.
