'Aspects of the Castrum Maris': Step back in time at Fort St Angelo with Heritage Malta

Heritage Malta is inviting locals and tourists alike to immerse themselves in Malta's medieval history at the history-brimming Fort St Angelo in Birgu on Sunday, the 2nd of February.
Once known as Castrum Maris or “Castle by the Sea,” this iconic stronghold will be transformed into a vivid representation of life in the 1400s through engaging re-enactments by the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta (HRGM).
From 10:00am to 3:00pm, visitors can explore the fort as a bustling medieval hub, complete with soldiers, authentic period clothing, and weaponry. These re-enactors will bring history to life, showcasing the daily lives and duties of the soldiers who once guarded this vital coastal fortress.
Participants can learn about the strategic importance of Fort St Angelo during medieval times, as well as the tools and supplies used for its defence.
This event is a unique opportunity to witness history unfold in the very place where knights and soldiers once walked, offering a rich educational experience for history enthusiasts and families alike.
