Animal sanctuaries struggling to keep afloat after donations drop to zero
Charity shops that support the upkeep of these facilities have closed down

Animal sanctuaries across Malta are struggling to continue on their mission after health directives related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malta came into effect. With certain sanctuaries closing their doors to visitors to prevent further spread of the virus, and others forced to shut down the charity shops that helped maintain the venture, local animal sanctuaries have hit a wall.

The Association for Abandoned Animals is one organisation facing difficulty, and reports that there are days where no donations are made.

A noticeable decline in donations has also negatively impacted local animal sanctuaries, with several reporting whole days without receiving any. Volunteers across several organisations have confirmed that the animals held in their establishments will continue to be their priority even if a national lockdown were to be put in place. Noah's Ark Dog Sanctuary Volunteers wrote in a Facebook comment: "..we will find a way to safeguard our dogs. Maybe we volunteers finally get our dream come true and get to spend our days and nights at the sanctuary surrounded by them."

Every little donation counts for these local organisations. Should you be able to offer some assistance, you'll be making a big difference to the situation.

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
