An atmospheric phenomenon! Malta wakes up to hazy skies due to smoke from deadly wildfires in Greece
According to Maltese Islands Weather, this dense haze is due to the raging wildfires in northern Greece.

Don’t worry, it’s not just you! It looks like Malta is in a dense haze and the popular weather page ‘Maltese Islands Weather’ has released an explanation of why this might be happening.

In an unexpected occurrence, the skies above the Maltese Islands have been veiled in a dense haze despite the absence of clouds. This puzzling phenomenon has been attributed to a distant source – the raging wildfires in northern Greece, situated more than 1,000 kilometres away. The smoke from these deadly infernos has travelled across vast distances, reaching the central Mediterranean and enveloping the Maltese region.

While the sun remains hidden and the air takes on an eerie haziness, experts assure that the smoke has positioned itself at higher altitudes and is unlikely to descend to ground levels.

Concurrently, the aftermath of recent rainfall this week is contributing to a gentle mist in the lower atmosphere, leading to a compounded reduction in air quality.

However, relief is on the horizon! Meteorological projections indicate that the haze is anticipated to dissipate over the weekend, with a complete restoration of clarity expected by Monday, August 28th.

This is due to the shifting wind patterns, specifically a vigorous northwest wind set to disperse the pollutants and rejuvenate the atmosphere. As this natural cleansing process unfolds, the Maltese Islands are expected to regain their pristine skies and revitalised air quality.

Have you noticed the haze across the Maltese Islands?
