Earlier this year, Villa Guardamangia – then-Princess Elisabeth’s local residence when Prince Philip was stationed in Malta – was put on sale for a whopping €6.5 million. Now, all the contents within this historic property are being auctioned off and you can be their new custodian.

From ornate cutlery to traditional paintings – yes, there is a Mattia Preti original in there – to authentically vintage furniture, the auction promises both history and royalty fans an intimate taste of what life in Malta in the 50’s looked like for the young couple.

The now-debilitated villa was built at the start of the 20th century but has been abandoned for a considerable amount of time. Both Queen Elisabeth and Prince Philip have often passed nostalgic remarks about the time they spent in Malta while Prince Philip was a naval officer, with the Queen admitting that it was indeed one of the happiest periods of her life. It is even speculated that Prince Charles was conceived there.

Unfortunately, it is unclear which items were utilized by the Royal household, if any, but their historic value and aesthetic appeal are undeniable.

The auction is being held on September 13th and 14th at the Villa itself. The fate of the villa is still uncertain, and this may well be your only chance to check out this once-opulent environment.
