The celebrated Greek musician is considered amongst the most promising pianists of his generation.
Teatru Manoel’s BOV opera week has a treat in store for music lovers. Renowned Greek pianist, Vassilis Varvaresos, who has played at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall and at the White House for President Barrack Obama, will be gracing the stage at Malta’s celebrated national theatre on 6th March.
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience Varvaresos’ finely honed technique in his performance of operatic paraphrases, which include Mozart’s Sonata in F major, K. 332, Mozart/Liszt’s Reminescences de Don Juan, Schumann’s Faschingsschwank Aus Wien op. 26 and Wagner/Liszt’s Ouverture de Tannhauser.
Winner of the coveted Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Varvaresos has appeared on virtually all the major stages in America, including New York’s Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center and Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center.
He has also previously been invited to play at Paris’ Salle Gaveau and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and is also appearing at the Enescu Festival as well as giving recitals and masterclasses in California, Cincinatti and Charleston USA.
Teatru Manoel’s opera week is taking place from the 5th – 11th March, with performances starting at 7:30pm. Other highlights include a new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and performances by flutist Rebecca Hall and pianist Lucia Micallef.
