The field will now be regenerated and conserved in a bid to attract the general public.
An abandoned field in Mosta which once belonged to infamous Maltese murderer Cikku Fenech is being given a new lease of life as plans are in place to convert it into a green open space.
The area’s shady history dates back to 1963, when its former owner shot Cikku Vella after a heated argument.
After the harrowing incident, Cikku Fenech went on the run, however after three months, he turned himself in to the police.
The field will now be regenerated and conserved in a bid to attract the general public and protect the fragile ecosystems it houses.

Amongst other things, the Mosta field is home to an array olive and cypress trees.
“We’re converting zones that were previously inaccessible and dilapidated into recreational areas,” Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia said during a press conference announcing the project.
“Projects like this, based on the grey-to-green concept, are serving to improve the quality of life of families around Malta,” he continued.
Thanks to this new investment, the field will be protected as a ‘green lung’ amidst an urban area, with the designs in place aiming to compliment the infrastructure readily present in the area.
