A taste of tradition! Local Food Festival back in Valletta’s Upper Barrakka this July
Mark your calendars, foodies – it's all happening between the 4th and 6th of July!
The Valletta Local Food Festival is set to return for its 4th edition this summer, bringing a wide range of traditional tastes and culinary heritage to the heart of the capital. Usually held in October, this year's edition will be taking place between the 4th and 6th of July at the Upper Barrakka Gardens. This free and family-friendly event celebrates the best of local produce, time-honoured recipes, and food traditions that continue to shape Maltese identity.
Organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency in collaboration with the Malta Food Agency, the festival will gather chefs, food artisans, and local producers to present their work and revive some lesser-known staples from the past. Festival attendees can expect a diverse spread, including handcrafted cheeses, traditional pastries, chutneys, sweets, deli favourites, and locally made beverages.
Alongside the variety of stalls and tastings, the event will also feature live cooking demonstrations, giving visitors a closer look at the techniques and ingredients that define Malta’s food culture. The emphasis this year is not only on flavour but also on continuity, with a focus on preserving culinary practices that have been passed down through generations.
Set against the backdrop of one of Valletta’s most scenic gardens, the festival offers an opportunity to explore Maltese food heritage while enjoying beautiful views of the Grand Harbour.
Entry is free, and all ages are welcome. Visitors are encouraged to follow the Valletta Cultural Agency’s Facebook page for updates, full schedules, and a preview of what’s to come!
