A magical historical evening! Museums by Candlelight returns to Rabat & Mdina this September
Museums by Candlelight returns to Rabat and Mdina on Saturday, 19th September, inviting visitors to experience three of Malta’s historic sites in a truly atmospheric setting.
From 7pm until midnight, the Domvs Romana, St Paul’s Catacombs and National Museum of Natural History will open their doors for a special evening illuminated by thousands of candles. For just €3, visitors can explore the sites while enjoying live music and performances.
At the Domvs Romana, visitors can discover the remains of a Roman aristocratic home, including its exquisite mosaics and remarkable collection of artefacts. Harpist Laetitia and violinist Stephen Scerri will provide live music from 8pm to 11pm.
Meanwhile, St Paul’s Catacombs, Malta’s largest complex of interconnected underground Roman cemeteries, will offer visitors the chance to explore its fascinating burial chambers. Recently becoming the first site in Malta to receive the European Heritage Label, the catacombs will welcome local band Skald for a live performance between 8pm and 11pm.
In Mdina, the National Museum of Natural History will open the doors of the magnificent Vilhena Palace, showcasing treasures ranging from a mummified Nile crocodile to fossils and remains of extinct species. Kathy the Violinist will provide musical entertainment throughout the evening.
The event coincides with Rabat Sacrum, organised by the Rabat Local Council from 6pm onwards, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable footwear. Tickets are available online and from Heritage Malta sites, while members enter free with pre-booking. All tickets are non-refundable.
