Get ready to embrace the arrival of astronomical summer and the longest day of the year in a truly extraordinary way. Heritage Malta is organising a summer event at the prehistoric site of Mnajdra between the 20th and 23rd of June, for an enthalling experience unlike any other.
Visitors are invited to watch in awe as the first rays of the rising sun illuminate the South building at Mnajdra, casting a narrow beam of light on a large, pitted stone slab to the left of the central passageway.
The significance of this event lies in its connection to the ancient builders of the megalithic sites. As farmers, they would have eagerly awaited the return of longer days, abundant light, and the warmth of summer. The Summer Solstice marked a pivotal moment when the community would come together to celebrate the changing seasons and the bountiful opportunities they brought.

Following the sunrise event, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore other fascinating attractions, including the Natura 2000 landscape and the visitor centre.
The event will start at 05:30 AM and the meeting place is just outside the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park Visitor Centre.
