7 cute things to do on Valentine’s Day in Malta
Dinner? Down time? Adventure? Take your pick.

A coastal walk

The north of Malta, around Mellieha and Golden Bay, is particularly scenic around February. Put your trekking boots on for a walk along the stretch of land above Ghajn Tuffieha Bay and the rugged coastline. The inlets below may provide complete seclusion for a couple’s picnic or a rest before more walking, which you’ll thoroughly enjoy at this time of year while the weather is still mild.

Take it outside

If a walk is too tame for you, there are lots of adrenaline-fuelling (and lung-busting) activities to try. Book yourselves in for a day of rock climbing (plenty of routes to choose from for all levels), abseiling, zip-lining (the longest one locally can be found at Migra l-Ferha in Rabat, Malta), off-road biking or even couple’s kayaking. Several companies organise excursions of this sort, and they’ll be able to guide you on the best places to experience them.

Put your feet up

… or your face down, for a leisurely massage and poolside leisure at one of the many local spas. A couple’s massage is a great way to chill out while you’re on holiday – it’s the kind of treat you’d never do at home, so browse through some of the top hotels on the island, source your favourite package, and get booking.

A quiet stroll

If it’s down time you’re after without breaking a sweat, head to Valletta, Mdina or the Three Cities (made up of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua) for a quiet stroll through the cities’ backstreets after dark. All the cities are pretty busy during the day, but in the evenings, they offer a totally different vibe. The dim lighting and narrow streets – which heighten the romantic mood – lend themselves to a quiet walk around, so you can soak up the beauty of the historic sites under the moonlight.

Grab cheeky drinks

Why not spend date night sipping on your favourite concoctions? Grabbing some cheeky drinks with your significant other is always a fun date night idea. Get boozied up and take the opportunity to catch up on life and buzz the night away (until 11pm, of course!)

Literally meaning ‘cross the channel’, you should do just that by ferry, the only mode of transport to get to the smaller island of Gozo for a slower-paced outing or a weekend away. The laidback atmosphere here lends itself to total relaxation, which all couples crave. And if you want to do as the locals do, rent a farmhouse for a couple of nights in the heart of one of the many villages there and bliss out. This weekend, extra precautions are being taken considering it's Carnival and Valentine's weekend, so make sure you're up to date with the new measures in place before heading over.

Tuck in

…to a great meal of course, for which you’ll find plenty of restaurants locally and all cuisines imaginable. The main restaurant hubs are Valletta, Sliema, St Julian’s and Rabat, as well as Mellieha up north which harbours some of the best eateries on the island. Alternatively, you can go the extra mile for a meal in Gozo, for which you’ll be spoilt for choice.
