Fancy some Asian fusion street food? Or some Mexican? How about Bavarian sausage? Or Dutch stroopwafels? Right this way.
1. Bánh Mi Malta
The rise of Asian cuisine on the islands has seen many a food van attempting to recreate authentic dishes from the region, to varying degrees of success. The relatively new Bánh Mi Malta, however, seems to have found the right recipe. This mobile eatery offers Vietnamese and Asian cuisine, with a frequently updated menu that’ll have you going back for more.
Location: Qormi
2. Ann’s van
Not only does Ann’s Van offer the freshest food prepared with locally- and sustainably-sourced ingredients, vegan and vegetarian options, as well as artisanal teas and coffees, but it is also ACTIVELY eco aware. You can get a free cup of coffee if you collect a bag of roadside trash and drop it off near Ann’s Van – they’ll also give you a pair of gloves to do so, so no excuses. 4. Kuya
Among the many food vans which have sadly come and gone, Kuya has remained, and it’s no surprise why. Specialising in Asian fusion street food, expect a range of delicious dishes such as roast chicken noodles with pak choi, seaweed salad and baby calamari with spicy garlic soy. And if you wish to eat from the comfort of a restaurant, head to Kuya Asian Pub in St Julian’s for more amazing grub.

5. EAT
For flavourful, genuine and hearty smoked and barbecued food, there’s no food van better than EAT. Think smoked pulled pork, smoked beef brisket, Philly cheese steak, cheesy fries and more, all cooked low and slow, delivering a range of tangy dishes that will make your taste buds sing.
Location: Mosta
6. Avotaco
Mexican food is the order of the day at Avotaco, which will be opening a brick-and-mortar shop in the coming months to complement its popular food van. From tacos and burritos to quesadillas and a range of desserts, it’s the closest you’ll get to genuine comida Mexicana.
Location: Ta’ Xbiex marina
7. The Tater Truck
Inspired by Amsterdam’s street food, The Tater Truck serves all its food – ranging from sliced potatoes and ravioli to waffles and even waffle cones – on a skewer. It’s the first of its kind locally, and a perfect photo op too.
Location: Various localities
8. Bavarian Sausage
This food truck is a regular at local feasts and large-scale events, although you’ll likely also encounter it faithfully stationed along the Sliema ferries, offering authentic Bratwurst hot dogs and other Bavarian sausage dishes. No fancy frills or trims here – just a good old fashioned German sausage. Well, have you tried it?
Location: Sliema ferries and around
9. Strü
For a real stroopwafel – the original Dutch variety consisting of two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle – head to Strü. The stroopwafels are fresh and homemade, and as mouth-watering as it gets. Stroopwafels with chocolate peanut butter cups, with crushed M&Ms, with caramel popcorn… are you drooling yet?
Location: Around the island
10. The Bagel Booth
Although not officially a food van, keep an eye out for The Bagel Booth if you’re heading to any large-scale events on the island – it’s likely to be there, serving an irresistible selection of freshly-made bagels with a dizzying choice of tasty ingredients.
