Wow! San Gejtanu’s parish church in Hamrun has been renovated to its former glory
The renovation comes just in time for this week’s festa celebrations.

Hamrun’s San Gejtanu parish church just got a facelift! This €200,000 project that was mostly funded by the EU, proved to be one of the more expensive church renovations that have lately been finalised.

The church’s façade had nails affixed to it, which have now been taken out, as well as it was cleaned off soot. The wooden and metal apertures of the front of the church were also restored, some of which even had cracked glass. Some of them have been redone completely.

80% of the project was funded by the European Union but 20% of the restoration’s funding came from public donations and contributions.

The renovation has been completed, just in time for festa enthusiasts to take in the church facade's full splendour this week.

Saint Gejtanu’s liturgical feast day starts today, but there will be celebrations on the streets of Hamrun all week long that will end on Sunday.

The church of San Gejtanu in Hamrun came into use in 1875 and in 1881 it became a parish church. This is one of a number of churches in Malta that are benefiting from the European Fund for Regional Development 2014-2020.

Will you be celebrating Hamrun’s festa this week?
