The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy, situated in the charming village of Qrendi, is a site steeped in history and devotion. Originally constructed in 1250, the church faced deterioration over the centuries and was deconsecrated in 1575 due to its poor condition. However, the unwavering devotion of the local community led to its reconstruction in 1650, preserving its spiritual significance.

The church's exterior is notable for its distinctive stone arches, which historically provided shelter for travellers seeking refuge from the elements. These arches, a testament to the church's welcoming spirit, are adorned with niches containing statues of revered saints.

Visitors can find statues of Saint Ignatius, Saint Gaetan, Saint Dominic, and Saint Francis gracing the outer niches, while statues of Saint Paul and Saint John the Baptist stand proudly by the main door, greeting whoever enters.

Inside the Sanctuary, the architectural splendour continues with three beautifully crafted altars. The main altar, in particular, is a masterpiece of stone sculpture, rich in detail and artistry. Its intricate design highlights the skill of the artisans who contributed to the church's reconstruction and embellishment.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy remains a significant spiritual and cultural landmark in Qrendi. This remarkable church, with its blend of historical architecture and devotional art, offers a unique glimpse into Malta's past.
