World Restaurant Awards Judge says Michelin Awards for Malta is “very positive news”
Ivan Brincat, an International Food Writer and a judge on the international panel of the World Restaurant Awards has welcomed Michelin’s announcement of elevating 3 local restaurants to the prestigious Michelin Stardom.
“Love or hate Michelin, it is the most influential guide in the world. The news that Malta has now 3 One Michelin Starred restaurants is indeed a very positive development. It is a slow start but a very important one as it will certainly trigger interest not only for locals but also for visitors particularly as food is becoming a very important selling point for travel destinations – and Malta is no exception.”
In his role as a judge on the panel of the prestigious World Restaurants Awards, Ivan Brincat spends most of his time travelling the globe in search of the best restaurants, along with stars in the gastronomy world, including the likes of Bottura and Ottolenghi. Based in Brussels, he also has his own international food blog – the Food and Wine Gazette, which attracts interest from around the globe.
Commenting on the Michelin announcement, Ivan said that the three restaurants who received the One Star Michelin award need to work very hard to sustain their performance and beyond: “For Malta to reach two Michelin stars and eventually three is uphill but possible. Ultimately the whole restaurant scene stands to gain by today’s announcement.”
