Saturday, 3rd Feb – The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2018 – Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali and any bar near you

Local personality and DJ Colin Fitz will be presenting this year’s edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the winner of which will represent the islands at the 63rd edition of the European competition which will take place in Portugal later this year. The event itself will be held on Saturday at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali starting at 9pm, and there are some last-minute tickets up for grabs. Sunday, 4th Feb - Trip to Fomm ir-Rih – Fomm ir-Rih

Take the scenic route with this trip to Fomm ir-Rih, taking place on Sunday. Explore the coast and learn something new about marine life during this visit, which will also be led by a guide and experts in the field of nature conservation. Participation is open to everyone who is at least 12 years of age and against a donation of €3 to The Environment Fund. This is not one for the meek: the route is graded as difficult and you are advised to wear appropriate clothing and good walking or trekking shoes. Funky Monkey is establishing itself as THE place to be for a good night out, and this weekend is no different. Head on down for Reaktive, featuring acid and techno DJs Neil Hales (aka Acidulant) and Kristian Vela, whose dynamic sets combine techno, groove, electro-techno and acid. Friday 2nd-Sunday 4th Feb – Antigone – Manoel Theatre, Valletta

This highly-anticipated new production of Sophocles's classical Greek play, starring Sharon Bezzina in the title role, centres on the tale of Antigone, who feels she should defy the authority of her uncle Creon by giving a burial to her brother, one of the rebels of the Civil War. However, her principles will cost her more than she bargained for. Shows start at 8pm and tickets can be bought from the Manoel Theatre’s box office. Friday 2nd-Sunday 4th Feb – My Fair Lady – Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta

One of the most popular musicals of all time, My Fair Lady, will be produced by FM Theatre and directed by Denise Mulholland, starring Maxine Aquilina as Eliza Doolittle, Tony Edridge as Henry Higgings, Edward Mercieca as Col. Pickering, Thomas Camilleri as Freddie Eynsford-Hill and Alan Paris as Alfie Doolittle. It tells the tale of a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a lady. The show features much-loved numbers including Just You Wait, I Could Have Danced All Night, and Get Me To The Church on Time. Shows start at 8pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

Thursday 1st Feb-Thursday 1st March – Embedded - An exhibition of paintings by Wioletta Kulewska – Malta Society of Arts, Valletta

This collection of abstract, biomorphic paintings by Polish artist Violet Kulewska was inspired by the marine fossil remains found inside Maltese limestone. Kulewska recreates the elemental process of fossilisation and explores themes of embodiment, resemblance and disappearance in her oil paintings, using gold leaf and the technique of printing plaster sculpture directly onto canvas. The works are being exhibited to the public free of charge at Palazzo De La Salle in Valletta. For more information, visit the facebook event.

Saturday 2nd-Saturday 10th Feb – The Snake Snow – St Lucy Street, Valletta

The Snake Snow is an exhibition organised by Fragmenta Malta, telling the story of the changing perception of snakes throughout history – from prehistoric examples to contemporary perceptions. Artists Ryan Falzon, Karine Rougier, Sharon Kivland, Sarah Maria Scicluna, Pippin Barr, Carl Gent and others will present snake-related work. The event is open to the general public, free of charge, at the space formerly called Ecotraco on 188b, St Lucy street, Valletta, just around the corner of St Paul’s Street.
