What an honour! Maltese Special Olympics team shines at Berlin World Games with three gold medals
The five different sports categories included swimming, table tennis, cycling, bowling, and golf.
Malta's Special Olympics team, which is competing in Berlin, has already won three gold and one silver medal in several competitions that took place yesterday.
The Maltese delegation participated in five different sports: swimming, table tennis, cycling, bowling, and golf.
The Maltese team took home three gold medals in the 200-meter dash, bowling (unified team sport), and cycling (15-kilometer road race), as well as a silver in the 800-meter dash.
With a time of 28 minutes 52.92 seconds, Gareth Borg won the 15K road race. Matthew Bugeja won the gold medal in the 200 meters with a sprint of 26.2 seconds, and Jake Gatt took home the silver in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes 36 seconds.
Furthermore, The Bowling Unified Sports Team made up of Amanda Cini, Luke Burke, Daniel Grech, and Philip Gruppetta, took home the gold.
Special Olympics Malta is competing at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin in 2023 in seven sports. There are 22 athletes in the Maltese delegation, together with five unified partners.
The Special Olympics World Games are taking place in Germany, Berlin. Over 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 190 different nations are competing.
The event is taking place from June 17th to June 25th, 2023.
