What a throwback! 5 local OG spots we miss
We truly miss these ones!

Jillian Mallia

As time goes by, favourite spots pop up and have a good run, but some sadly close down too. These five OG spots are probably the ones we miss most.

1. Dick’s Bar

Oh, how we miss this one! Dick’s Bar was known for its pizza, which was “the best pizza in the world,” as the signage outside read. It’s now replaced by a sushi joint, and we’re kinda craving Dick’s pizza right about now.

2. Magic Kiosk

This is possibly one of the major OGs on our island. Everyone would stop by Magic K while on their shopping sprees in Sliema for a quick bite. And let me tell you, it would be the highlight of the day!

3. Jessie’s

This go-to bar in St Andrew’s was the perfect spot to grab a beer and snack with friends before heading out. Back in the day it was the only shop in the area that opened on Sundays. We truly miss this gem!

4. Rokna

Earlier this year, this iconic pizza joint (and the oldest on the island) closed down, and the news hit every local right in the feels. We really miss the scrumptious pizza prepared at this amazing spot in Paceville. It was the best place for a pre-clubbing meal on a Friday or Saturday night.

5. Central Bar

What was situated on the former site of the Victory Kitchen that fed the islanders during World War II quickly became a spot for a different type of clientele in later years: the lawyer. Quick snacks like tea, bread, coffee and pastizzi (obvs) were served while cases were discussed.
