What a throwback! 30-year-old photo shows Santa Venera’s tunnels under construction
A cool shot!

The Santa Venera tunnels are tunnels that hundreds of Maltese drivers make use of frequently on their daily commutes.

However, this photo uploaded by Carmelo Mizzi on the Facebook group ‘Malta taghna w tal imghoddi’ shows them in a completely different light.

The photo was taken some time around the early 1990s when the tunnels were still being constructed.

It depicts both tunnels in the process of being dug as the project makes way for a more efficient link for cars in central Malta.

Since it opened the tunnels have been in use every single day, for the plus 30 years or so.
