Malta recently made waves in the weightlifting world as it played host to two prestigious competitions: the Mediterranean Weightlifting Cup and the Malta International Open. Organised by the Malta Weightlifting Association, these events showcased the exceptional talents of Maltese athletes on the global stage, delivering thrilling displays of strength, determination, and record-breaking feats.
Tenishia Thornton is not a new name in the world of weightlifting and, yet again, this young starlet was the standout performer of the weekend, capturing the spotlight by clinching the Gold in the Malta Open Juniors and the Silver in the Seniors category. Thornton's astounding lifts, including a clean and jerk of 107kg, not only earned her gold but also set new Mediterranean and National Records, solidifying her reputation as a rising star in the sport.

Rylee Borg's remarkable performance added to Malta's success, securing Gold in the Youth category and setting new national records in both snatch and total. Kim Camilleri Lagana also contributed to the medal tally by claiming Gold in the Youth category.

In the team events, Malta's weightlifting prowess was on full display. The Malta International Open Senior Team secured the second spot, led by athletes like Rylee Borg, Ryan Degiorgio, Luke Treeby Ward, Kim Camilleri Lagana, Aaliyah Gatt, and Monica Swayne.

Meanwhile, in the Mediterranean Cup Seniors, Malta secured the third spot in the team event, showcasing the collective strength and determination of its athletes.
