What a sight! Funnel cloud forms over Malta right before evening thunderstorm
It was mainly spotted over central Malta.

Emma Galea

Before yesterday's thunderstorm, many across Malta spotted a funnel cloud otherwise known as lembut tal-arja forming over the country.

This possibly developed into a small tornado (tromba tal-arja) over certain central locations such as Santa Venera in Malta.

The followers of the local weather page ‘Temp Madwarna’ wrote that they heard strong winds and noises outside their houses which is why they’re suspecting a small tornado might have formed.

Some trees were even reported to have been uprooted in central locations across Malta.

The photos shown were taken from Marsaskala, Mosta and H’Attard.

Did you spot it?
