It was time for victory for the Birkirkara FC Women as their win against Breznica Montenegro in the UEFA Women’s Champions League advanced the team to the preliminary group’s final match.

The game started with both teams testing each other without any goalscoring chances. However, victory was made when Edith Garcia, a recent summer acquisition, scored a show-stopping goal that secured the team’s win, achieving the result of 1-0. It was the only goal scored in the closing seconds of play on Wednesday night.

This was Birkirkara’s second victory in the competition, after last season’s win over Glentoran, of Northern Ireland. Led by coach Jose Borg, the team will now play FC Zurich, the reigning Swiss champions at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday which will kick off at 6 pm.

Well done, ladies!
