The battery was built in 1715.

Din l-Art Helwa together with the Gozitan NGO, Nadur Nadif and many other volunteers have collected an impressive amount of rubbish and waste from the Qbajjar Battery in Marsalforn.

The Zumba with Pahola class also joined in on the cleanup as they use the battery’s adjacent outdoor area for their classes. A number of people that happened to be passing by also stopped to help.

They managed to collect over 40 rubbish bags, four boxes of broken glass and a lot of scrap in bulk such as rotten wood and fridges.

Daniel Cilia, the photographer who took the photos of the clean up, has been fighting for this historic landmark to be restored.

Things however are still stagnant and Din L-Art Helwa, the NGO that has the plans on restoring the 1715 fortification, is still waiting to hear from the Lands Authority.

Nonetheless, this clean-up is a definitely a step in the right direction and fingers crossed that this battery gets restored to its former glory.
