Well done! Maltese weightlifter Tenishia Thornton shines in European Junior Championships
The European Weightlifting Junior Championships were held in Bucharest, Romania.
Tenishia Thornton, the sole representative from Malta in the European Weightlifting Junior Championships, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in the 59kg category finals held in Bucharest, Romania.
The talented weightlifter made an impressive start in the Snatch portion, lifting 81kg and surpassing athletes from France, Germany, Sweden, Romania, Norway, and the Czech Republic.

With her second attempt at 83kg, she managed to outperform competitors from Poland and Spain. Though she narrowly missed her third and final attempt at 85kg, she secured an admirable 6th place in the Snatch category, with the gold and silver medals going to Ukraine and Italy.
During her Clean and Jerk, Tenishia faced some challenges due to knee pain during warm-up. Undeterred, she made a successful lift of 100kg, putting her back on the scoreboard. Despite not pushing herself further, her determination and skill earned her a total of 183kg, securing a commendable 7th place overall.
The accomplishment at the European Junior Championships was made possible with the invaluable support of the Malta Olympic Committee and SportMalta, highlighting the significance of their backing in nurturing local talent and fostering achievements on the international stage.
Well done, Tenishia!
